| This is a set of two CD ROMs that has been developed
under the guidance of Yogacharya BKS Iyengar, Smt. Geeta S. Iyengar and Prashant S. Iyengar.
It consists of five modules. An introduction on yoga, on asanas, on the
practice of asanas, on Guruji and his early life and on Geetaji and her
early life. The last part of the introduction includes short videos on Guruji speaking on various aspects of yoga ranging from
Yoga in general to the health benefits, yoga for women to meditation.
The second module elaborates the
basic aspects of 23 fundamental asanas. There is a video presentation
of each asana with emphasis being given not only to the final pose but
also to getting into and coming out of the pose. Further, the process of
the asana (which includes all the three steps involved) is sub divided
into "action points" where one gets to learn some of the subtleties
of the pose.
This CD-ROM contains four hours of audio
instructions, 20 minutes of video and more than 1000 images superimposed
with animation. This
section can safely be used to initiate a novice into yoga.
The third module is on "restorative asanas" and is pictorially
depicting the postures that can be done for different ailments. There
is an interesting section on 'Yoga Class' where one can program one's
own class by selecting the sequence of postures and the duration for which
one intends to perform these. This module would be of great
use to beginners.
The final module on anatomy contains pictorial
presentation of the anatomical and physiological systems.
These CD-ROMs cannot substitute any book or a yoga class or a yoga teacher. Technically,
the CD-ROM is well presented and also user friendly.
All in all this CD-ROM is strongly recommended for beginner and intermediate
level student and students who do not have an access to a good teacher.
