Who can practice "Iyengar
Yoga"?
People of any age can practice "Iyengar Yoga". An "Iyengar Yoga"
teacher will always ensure that the students are totally involved
(physically, mentally and emotionally) in their practice.
Introducing yoga to children develops in them the attributes of
courage, concentration and determination. Children can be playfully
introduced to yoga but they should never be forced as this can
damage their spine. They should be taught the yamas and niyamas
with the help of stories and anecdotes.
Guruji was the first to introduce yoga to schools in India. Now
yoga is part of the curriculum of the ICSE board and most of it
is Iyengar yoga. Iyengar yoga is a regular course at many International
universities including University of California, Riverside.
Yoga is a gift to older people when the recuperative power of
the body is declining and resistance to illness is weakened.
Will I be able to do Yoga
if I am very stiff ?
A lay observer may feel that a person who is more flexible can
perform yogasana better than a person who is stiff. However, this
is not true. By regular practice, one can strive towards perfection
in the asana where the effort to perform it becomes effortless.
